I finished Rachel's book over the weekend and I want to post a review of it at some point. Maybe today. I have to get laundry started and the house cleaned, first. So maybe tomorrow...how about at some point this week? I also want to update my blog layout but I just realized that when Aaron updated the OS, he didn't put Photoshop back on my computer and I don't want to use Paint.
There were no Star Wars or D&D games scheduled this weekend and I didn't have anywhere to be, which was kind of nice. I did go to Borders by myself for an hour on Sunday. There were so many lovely books there and I had a hard time deciding what to get. A girl that worked there asked me if I needed help with anything & I said I was fine but she said I seemed lost so I told her that I was trying to decide what to get.
She started to ramble off books & authors but I had already read all of what she was suggesting. Then she said, "I know! Have you ever read any of the Amber books by Zelazny? My husband read them when he was a kid & he had me read them last year and I loved them!" So I purchased The Great Books of Amber, which is all 10 books in one, on her recommendation. I'm going to go back and kick her ass if the book sucks.
As we were searching for something to read another book caught my eye, entitled The Mall of Cthulhu. I happened to have a coupon for buy 1, get 1 50% off so I went back & picked it up as well. It's about Ted, a barista living in Boston who stumbles onto a group of cultists who plan on awakening the Old Ones & it's up to Ted to stop them! It's only 235 pgs. so I'm going to read it before I try to tackle the other book (which is 1264 pgs!).
I also found a journal that had a picture of the Wicked Witch on it. She's looming over the cover and in the lower right hand corner are a pair of feet & legs clad in stripped stockings & the ruby slippers. The cover itself is green and the slippers are filled in with red glitter. The empty spaces are filled with glossy, red poppies and it has a red ribbon to mark your place in the book. It was on 75% clearance, so I only paid $3.45 for it. I consider my blog a journal, so I'm not really sure what I'm going to write in it. And 'lo, I found a picture of the cover on the interwebz. I like using pictorial aides in my bloggins.
The Super Bowl was a big disappointment. I guess I should be happy that the Colts even made it to the Super Bowl and that they didn't choke, they were just out played. But damn it, I wanted them to win! The halftime show was OK. Don't get me wrong, I like The Who, but they don't sound the like they did 300 years ago and I'd rather listen to them on cd. Some of the commercials were funny, my favorite being the Betty White/Snickers commercial.
You're playing like Betty White out there. That's not what your girlfriend says.
There was a big thing on my twitter feed this morning about how misogynistic the Super Bowl commercials were. Someone even made a flow chart about it, which is pretty damn funny. I guess I was too busy paying attention to the actual game to get offended by the commercials.
School was on a 2 hour delay this morning so that meant Xander didn't have school at all (his pre-K class runs from 8:30 AM to 11:00 AM). We stayed up pretty late last night so I was sooooo happy that I didn't have to get up at 7 AM this morning. Xander did wake up at 4:00 AM and ended up getting into bed with me since Aaron fell asleep on the couch.
I need to go make lunch for my minions & get started on the laundry/house cleaning. I spent an hour putting up decorations for the game and now I need to take all that crap down. And yes, we were the only one's here for the Super Bowl "party". I made pizza rolls & chicken strips & blue jello and we also had peanuts & chips w/queso because those are all things you should eat when you watch football. I even drank a beer. Xander wants me to leave all the decorations up but I don't think that would go over too well with Aaron.

Ack! Now I'm going to be walking around on eggshells til I read what you've thought of it. :)
Sounds like you had a good trip to Borders. I love going there even more than ol' B&N, but there are so few of them around. The nearest one we have down here is like, downtown? But I fucking LOVE it there.
I'm pretty jealous of your finds too, can't wait to hear what you think of Mall of Cthulhu, it sounds pretty great? That journal thingy sounds hella cute too, you should jot down ideas for our fantasy/porn/schmutt novel. I am telling you; Minotaurs & Faeries taking turns buttslamming each other is a TOTAL WIN.
I didn't watch the Superbowl, I only care about it because Snookms does so much, but I did take 43 seconds of my time to watch that funny ass commercial. I even clicked the link to view the misogyny flow chart! & yeah, that sounds pretty damn misogynistic if you ask me. I never even paid much attention to that stuff til I started getting obsessed with Nicola Griffith. Not that she's all like "grrr! Misogyny, IT'S EVERYWHERE!" but damn, it kind of is?
But yeah, that's not what this post was about so I'll shuddup now since I just blahged in your comments sexion. (I forgot how you spelled that last time. Your way seemed way cuter than my current attempt.)
I guess I just don't pay a whole lot of attention to stuff like that - misogyny & shit. I mean, I did get my granny panties in a bunch over the D&D game but I think it was because it was blatantly affecting me, ya'know? I guess if I think it's funny & it's not actually hurting anyone, then I don't take it seriously.
I'm not even sure where the closest B&N is to us. The Borders is at the mall in Noblesville so it's only like 15 minutes from my house. It's actually only the 2nd time I've been in there, though. I generally don't buy brand new books, unless it's from amazon.com. I just needed some instant gratification that day :)
Minotaurs would probably be buttraping faries, since the faries are so small. It would kind of be like midgit porn, but with wings and horns.
Yeah, I was pretty much in the same boat as you at first, but I'm starting to realize how much of an effect/affect (which one is IT???) on other's perspectives when we as women just kind of laugh that shit off as nothing when really it is a horrible misrepresentation of who we are in society. I dunno. I'm not all hardcore nazi-fem & shit, but I am definately starting to think twice about a lot of things.
Also, dude, I can totally see a faerie buttslamming a minotaur. It doesn't even HAVE to be assrape either. (which is another term that I am trying not to throw around so loosely, but don't worry, I know wut you mean Vern.)
