After resting for the night, we made our way back to the cannibal's camp and reached it without further incident. We decided to scout the camp to see if we could find a way in without alerting all of the cannibals to our presence. There were 4 cannibals sitting around the fire pit and a few buildings around the camp.
Our plan was to put the cannibals at the fire to sleep and Jerzy was going to set fire to the hut closest to us if anyone tried to come out. While we were waiting for Jerzy to get into place, a monkey came out of the hut and Jerzy decided to shoot at it, missing twice. The monkey started to scream and ran inside the hut. The witch came out and Astrid was able to put the 4 cannibals at the fire to sleep before they could join the fight. Jerzy & Chin went after the witch, while Marcus kicked a hole in the wall of the witch's hut so that he could save a prisoner that she had tied up.
Astrid followed Marcus through the hole and was able to come out the door of the hut and flank the witch. The witch tried to hit us with some creepy, necromantic spells but she either missed or we made our saves so the witch became desperate and called on 4 skeletons to help her. Marcus used his smite evil ability on her and knocked her down and Astrid grabbed the witch's staff and used it to control the skeletons.
At this point, 13 more raging barbarian cannibals show up and Chin decides to take the witch's head and throw it at them to try and intimidate them. It's a good thing he did because the witch wasn't really dead and she was trying to bluff us. Astrid commanded the skeletons to go and fight the cannibals and we were able to kill a few of them. The barbarians weren't raged for very long and once they came out of it, we were able to subdue them and lock them in one of the huts.
We rescued 3 of our NPCs (poor Ishirou was already on the fire, being cooked for dinner) and our new PC, Nerez, a half-elf wizard. Now we need to figure out if we are going to investigate the Pit of the Mother to see what Ieana was doing down there & if we are going to pursue her, or if we're just going to try and find our way off the island. I want to find Ieana to kick her ass and I also want to explore the rest of the island before we leave the island but I don't know if the rest of the group wants to do that.
Because Astrid was able to use the witch's staff (which was evil and Astrid had to make a will save, that she succeeded at) the witch class is now open to her. I decided to go ahead and multi-class, so now she is a level 2 savage skald/level 1 witch. If I had used the staff to call my familiar, it would've given me +5 to my caster level, along with several other abilities. It was very, very, very tempting to do that but after thinking about it, I decided not to. My reasoning was that the staff was tied to some power or spirit on the island and that it was a) evil & b) going to hurt us in our attempts to leave the island.
Astrid is a "normal" witch but she was able to call a really cool familiar. It's one of the lizard creatures on the island that uses electricity in it's attack. It gives Astrid a DR 5/electricity and adds 2d8 to any electric spell that she casts. The creature also gives her a +2 to her stealth checks.
